CLIMB ACONCAGUA

Climb Aconcagua

Highlights:

  • 22 days, 21 nights in Argentina
  • 19 days, 18 nights guided climb of Aconcagua
  • Climb the highest peak in South America, and in the world outside of the Himalayas
  • Experienced and knowledgeable mountain guides, muleteers and porters

At 22,841 ft, Aconcagua stands as the highest mountain in South America, the highest mountain on Earth outside of the Himalayas and is one of the famed “Seven Summits”. On our first trip to this massive sentinel, we will be climbing a new route known as the “Ameghino and Upper Guanacos Traverse Route”. This non-technical route compares in difficulty to the “Normal Route” but features many fewer climbers and the chance to see both sides of Aconcagua. This route offers breaktaking views of the neighboring peaks and glaciers. It also offers the advantage of the Plaza Argentina base camp, used by many of the more technical routes such as the Polish Glacier route and staffed with a permanent Doctor, porter staff and daily mule arrivals for any emergency.

While this route offers a more gradual ascent of the mountain than any other, it does not come without difficulty. Our climb will be an expedition-style climb, using a “double-carry” strategy between camps. Participants will need to carry between 30-40 lbs. between camps as we climb higher on the mountain. Mules and muleteers will assist in transporting our gear into base camp, and porters will assist in carrying much of our group climbing gear from camp-to-camp. Personal porters are available at an additional charge to assist in carrying personal gear to each of the high camps.

Our exploratory trip is open only to previous Northwest Voyageurs clients and friends and family. In order to participate in this trip, you must have some previous high altitude trekking or mountaineering experience. You must also have experience with crampons and an ice axe on moderately steep terrain.
