As a tropical destination, Costa Rica tends to be characterized by wet and dry seasons, rather than a four season climate of more temperate regions. In general, the dry season (called summer by Costa Ricans) is December through April and the rest of the year is the wet season (winter). Temperatures vary little from season to season but do vary by region and elevation.
The climate is quite different on the west coast (sea kayaking portion of trip) vs. in the jungle on the river. The west coast is really dry during the dry season and experiences average temperatures in the 80s and low 90s with relatively high humidity. The rivers and jungles on the east side of the continental divide can experience rain any time of year and temperatures on the rafting portion of our trip can be cooler when conditions are wet and/or cloudy.
