Day 1: Please arrive into Boise Airport by 4:00 p.m. Transportation is provided to Halfway, Oregon to the Birch Leaf Guest House B&B (3 ˝ hours). After a welcome reception, pre-trip orientation and dinner at the Birch Leaf, we enjoy an evening at the base of the stunning Wallowa Mountains.
Day 2: After breakfast, we depart for Hells Canyon Dam, the launch site for our adventure. We meet our guides, have a thorough safety orientation and begin our 5-day, 4-night whitewater adventure down the Snake River. We have a couple of hours to practice our paddling skills and make a stop for lunch before our first major rapids—Wild Sheep Rapids and Granite Creek Rapids. These are both Class IV rapids and we scout each one before running them.
Several times during the day, we stop at places of historical and cultural importance, such as ancient Indian pictograph sites. By late afternoon, we arrive at our riverside camp, nestled among towering canyon walls and brilliant wildflowers. In camp, we begin the process of unwinding and transitioning to “river time.”
Appetizers and dinner are served in the evening. Our gourmet meals consist of main courses such as lime-dill salmon, juicy steaks and Mexican fajitas. Desserts are typically baked fresh on the river using our Dutch ovens. After dinner, we continue to unwind and prepare for a brilliant night sky and a well-deserved rest.
Days 3-6: After a delicious breakfast, we depart camp around 10:00 a.m. and continue our journey downstream. Each day, we make several stops at historic cabins and homesteads or at ancient Native American petro glyph sites. Numerous hikes are available throughout the trip. Our guides share river tales as we float between numerous Class III rapids. Each night we settle into our luxury river camp and enjoy fine food and good company.
In the afternoon of day 6, we depart the Snake River and travel out of Hells Canyon to the Little Salmon Lodge in Pollock. Here, we will enjoy a celebration dinner and final night’s stay along the banks of the Little Salmon River. The lodge features a hot tub, beer and wine bar and a wonderful ambience.
Day 7: After breakfast, we will return to Boise. If you plan to fly out on this day, please schedule your flight after 1:00 p.m. Drop-off is also available at Boise hotels if you plan to extend your stay.
