Day 1: Arrival to Costa Rica Arrive in San Jose, Costa Rica by late afternoon and will be met at the airport by our adventure guides. In the evening, we’ll enjoy a welcome dinner at the Radisson Hotel, in San Jose
Day 2: Jungle Kayaking in Tortuguero National Park To kick off the trip, we’ll travel through banana plantations until we reach our starting point for jungle kayaking on the Suerte River. After taking time to become familiar with our kayaks, we will paddle through lush forests with amazing flora and fauna enjoying lunch along the way. After our day paddling the river, we will arrive at the Mawamba lodge, to enjoy cocktails and dinner
Day 3: Jungle Kayaking and/or Hiking in Tortuguero National Park This day is designed to be flexible with several options to paddle from and back to Mawamba Lodge. You may want to paddle to rarely visited canals or to the Tortuguero hills and go for a hike. After lunch at the Mawamba Lodge, you are free to choose from a number of tours or just relax around the pool.
Day 4: Rafting the Pacuare River After breakfast, we’ll take a private motorboat to the town of Matina where we will transfer to the put-in of one of the top five best white water rivers in the world, the Pacuare River! Upon reaching the river, we will have a thorough safety orientation and begin paddling through the Pacuare's pristine jungle. We will raft for two hours through adrenaline filled Class III-IV rapids. Our destination is the Jungle Lodge, deep within the rain forest, where we'll spend the next two nights.
Day 5: Bird Watching, Canopy Tour, and Nature Restoration on the Pacuare River This day is designed to enjoy the amazing jungle surroundings. If you like, wake up early and join our guide for a bird watching walk, or sleep in and catch up at breakfast. After breakfast, you can take in the jungle from the trees with our 6-platform canopy tour! Or just relax in a hammock at the lodge and enjoy the amazing surroundings. You will also have the option to visit project “Plant for the Planet”—where you can plant a native tree and receive a certificate that indicates you participated in the United Nations “Billion Tree Campaign”.
Day 6: Raft the Pacuare River and Visit La Tirimbina Biological Reserve for a Bats Tour After a hearty breakfast you'll prepare to paddle down the Pacuare gorge past gushing waterfalls, serene pools and pounding rapids. A snack stop by the riverside lets you explore more waterfalls and natural waterslides. An adrenaline-packed afternoon running rapids like Upper and Lower Huacas, Cimarron, Dos Montañas and many more, will have you cheering ecstatically!
In the evening, we’ll visit La Tirimbina Biological Reserve for a “Bats Night Tour.” On the tour, you’ll be given a presentation on the history of bats, adaptations, and reproduction methods. But, the most popular part of the tour is when you’ll be able to touch, feed and release safely captured bats. You’ll also be able to take a short-guided walk to see the mist nests used to gently and professionally catch the bats.
Day 7: Explore Arenal Hanging Bridges and Ecotermales Hot Springs After breakfast, we will take you to the beautiful town of Fortuna in San Carlos. Upon arrival, we’ll explore the famous Arenal Hanging Bridges. Our naturalist guide will reveal the fascinating and colorful tropical rainforest world. You can also visit the Waterfall Trail and enjoy the majestic waterfall within the rainforest. The imposing views of the volcano from the hanging bridges over the forest make the perfect combination for an unforgettable experience.
Late in the afternoon, we will move to Ecotermales Hot Springs. The Hot Springs is a family project that has been built with years of hard work. The four pools vary in temperature, the coolest one is 91 degrees and the hottest one is 105. One of the pools has a cascading waterfall with misty water that is wonderfully refreshing.
Day 8 – Mountain Biking, Hiking, Kayaking near Arenal Volcano On this day, you’ll have the opportunity to experience mountain biking, hiking, and kayaking within an invigorating environment of magnificent vegetation and diverse fauna. The mountains and lakes of the Arenal Volcano provide breathtaking scenery and an extraordinary adventure. In the evening, we will transfer to Monteverde and lodge at El Establo.
Day 9: Explore Monte Verde Cloud Forest After breakfast, we will venture to the beautiful Monte Verde Cloud forest. Straddling the Continental Divide at 1440 meters (4662 ft), the Santa Elena and Monteverde Cloud Forest areas offer one of the most interesting places to visit in Costa Rica. The Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve is a private non-profit reserve administered by the Tropical Science Center, and contains 6 distinct ecological zones. Called a cloud forest rather than a rain forest because of its altitude, the clouds go through the forest. The canopy is extremely rich with birds, insects, butterflies, and thousands of plants.
The tour consists on a hike, where we will explore different trails in search of birds and mammals and discuss the amazing diversity of plants. Spectacular wildlife includes the Jaguar, Ocelot, Baird´s Tapir, Three-wattled Bellbird, Bare necked Umbrella bird and the famous elusive Resplendent Quetzal.
In the evening, we return to the Radisson Hotel in San Jose for our farewell dinner and final night in Costa Rica. B, L, D, Radisson Hotel (or similar)
