Both the Snake & Salmon Rivers are Class III-IV rivers – mostly Class IIIs with a few Class IVs. Both rivers are big volume, pool and drop rivers. So while most of our rapids are not technically difficult, they have big waves, big rides and are a lot of fun. Keep in mind that the classification system is not a “fun-meter”. It is rather a measurement of how technically difficult the rapids are, and how bad the consequences of a mistake are. We are fortunate that our rapids are huge and fun, but not particularly technically difficult or dangerous, which is really the best of both worlds!
In the spring, the Salmon River floods and the whitewater can be considerably bigger and less predictable than the summer. Spring high water is often only appropriate for older children or in extreme conditions, we may require participants be at least 18 yrs. old.
